St. Hilda’s provides residential services/community homes in the wider community of Athlone. Our homes are in ordinary neighbourhoods throughout the community like any other home with staff supporting individuals with an intellectual disability who wish to live independently in their chosen community setting. The majority of individuals who chose to live in a residential setting are in a day service or access employment in the community. All Individuals are encouraged and supported to fully participate in the day to day running of their home and are encouraged to personalise their home to reflect their individual taste. Involvement of friends and family is actively encouraged and supported and family members and friends are welcome to visit at any time. While the home provides the basic security and comfort that all of us would value, there is a strong emphasis on engaging with the local communities and the use of community services. Many people are currently availing of our residential services and engaging as active members with social valued roles in their local community. Compatibility and friendship in each home is a consideration for all residents.
These services are provided in line with the National Standards for Residential Services for Children and Adults with Disabilities.
All houses are required to be registered with HIQA and are subject to regular inspection in line with legislation.
For more information on how to access Residential Services please see info for families.
